Nevada is a center of advanced medical research as well as leading clinical treatment and education institutions.

The University of Nevada’s School of Medicine is a fully accredited, research-intensive medical school, which has served as Nevada’s only public medical school for more than 40 years. Chartered in 1969 to serve the healthcare needs of rural Nevada, the school today serves an expanded mission of meeting the rapidly growing and changing needs of Nevada’s urban centers. Touro University Nevada addresses the critical need for healthcare professionals. The non-profit, private university is home to more than 1,700 students in a wide range of degree programs in osteopathic medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and other specialties. Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine is Nevada's second medical school and its only osteopathic medical school.

In oncology, Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada is an award-winning oncology group that is successfully treating many metastasized cancers through innovative and emerging techniques.

In neurology the St. Rose Center for Neurosurgery is a clinical collaboration that combines the high levels of quality already established at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals with the world-renowned expertise of Stanford in the treatment of neurological disorders. Similarly, the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health offers new approaches to delay the onset of cognitive disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other mild cognitive impairments.

The presence of world-class medical schools and research draws other leaders in health care, including Cenegenics, the world’s largest age management practice and the recognized leading authority in its field; Varian Medical Systems, the world's leading manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions; Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, which markets pharmacological cancer products for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and for advanced metastatic colorectal cancer.
