Nevada Manufacturing

Nevada’s Manufacturing sector continues on a long-term growth trend, although job counts have slowed in the past two quarters. That said, both trends are expected to improve as Tesla begins hiring operational workers. Employment levels currently stand at 42,000 with average earnings of $53,400 per year. Earnings are net of benefits.

With excellent logistics infrastructure and just one day’s drive to Pacific Rim ports and to more than 60 million consumers, manufacturing represents an important segment of Nevada’s economy, employing more than 56,000 workers at over 1,800 manufacturing companies.

Printing and publishing and metals fabrication account for more than 10,000 jobs, and are the largest segments after mining. Other significant segments including electronics, furniture and fixtures, chemicals, industrial machinery and equipment, paper products, lumber and wood, textiles and apparel, rubber and plastics, and transportation equipment.

The Southern region is Nevada's top city for manufacturing employment, home to more than 27,000 jobs with an average annual pay of nearly $49,000 compared to $45,000 for all other jobs. Though small, the industry is also critical to economic innovation such as the robotics manufacturer Pololu, and it's an export sector that attracts outside money. Food and printing are the second and third largest segments, attracting more than one quarter of all Southern manufacturing jobs.

In the Northern Region, Reno and Sparks account for more than 13,000 jobs. Tyco, Trex, James Hardie, Chevron Pipe, are among the leading industrial manufacturers. Food processing, too, is an important segment and is led by NOW health foods, Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressings, French Gourmet frozen dough, and Pacific Cheese.
